Reno Tahoe Freeride is a nonprofit dedicated to providing scholarships for local athletes in the Reno/Tahoe area who need financial assistance to pursue freeride skiing. Our goal is to break down financial barriers by covering travel, competition, program fees, and equipment costs—ensuring every athlete has the opportunity to succeed on and off the mountain.

Through scholarships, we empower these athletes to gain access to training, mentorship, and competition experiences that help them grow as athletes and individuals.

WHY IT MATTERS

• Expense

  The expense of skiing alone can be an extreme financial burden. Beyond the basics of skis, boots, and safety gear, athletes face team fees, competition entry fees, lift tickets, travel, and lodging at events. The average freeride family spends between $8,000 - $15,000 on an athlete per season. These costs add up quickly — and for many families, they become the biggest barrier to participation. Your donation will provide opportunities for talented kids who couldn’t otherwise afford to compete. 

• Popularity Increase

  Freeride skiing is one of the fastest-growing areas of the sport. With more events, bigger media coverage, and pathways from junior competitions all the way to international tours, more kids than ever want to be part of it. This surge in popularity means more young athletes are training, competing, and chasing their goals on snow. Scholarships help ensure that kids from all backgrounds can access these growing opportunities and that cost doesn’t become the reason they’re left behind.
